Joy in the Unexpected: Eilidh & Tommy’s Walled Garden Wedding

Some love stories are deeply tied to a place, and for Eilidh and Tommy, that place has always been a wild, beautiful corner of the North-West Highlands. It’s where they first met while working in the same hotel, and where their relationship unfolded over countless evening walks. So, it felt perfectly natural that they would return here for their wedding.
What was also remarkable was the calm and easy pace of their planning. Despite getting in touch in late August for their October wedding, pulling everything together in just two months felt completely relaxed and stress-free, a real testament to their personalities.
Their original plan was to marry at a favourite outdoor spot from those early days. But on the morning of their wedding, it was clear the weather had other ideas. It had been windy and raining all morning, making an outdoor ceremony impossible. It’s always a heart-wrenching decision to abandon a plan that holds so much meaning, but thankfully, they had a wonderful Plan B. We moved the ceremony to the walled garden at Scourie Lodge, a place that held its own special meaning as it’s run by their dear friends, Sophie and Stuart, who were also their witnesses. And with this change of location came a delightful surprise: a palm tree! It was my first ever Scottish palm tree wedding, a quirky and wonderful twist to the day.

"Working with Monika was an absolute pleasure. She was organised, knowledgeable, and keen to personalise our ceremony to suit our needs, truly a perfect celebrant. She was the perfect compliment to our laid back nature and steered us through the process masterfully. Monika was calm through all unexpected hiccups and spoke so eloquently through the ceremony, she created a beautifully intimate atmosphere and captured us a couple so well. We can’t recommend her highly enough - thank you Monika
Eilidh & Tommy

The ceremony that unfolded in this sheltered garden was a perfect reflection of their relationship. We began with a Mary Oliver poem about a love that feels less like a choice and more like destiny, beautifully capturing the spirit of their own story. Their connection is a lovely balance of personalities: Eilidh’s curiosity and thoughtful energy gently complemented by Tommy’s patience and quiet steadiness that holds everything together. Against this backdrop of friendship and calm, they made their promises, their hands bound in a heartfelt handfasting ritual and speaking their vows while holding an oathing stone. After signing the Marriage Schedule in the beautiful Scourie Lodge, where Sophie and Stuart had prepared a lovely, warm setting for this occasion, Eilidh & Tommy explored the area with Karo their photographer. They managed to have some photos taken in the original spot they had chosen for the ceremony - somehow, they got
The day was a beautiful reminder that sometimes the most memorable moments are the ones you didn’t plan. And a perfectly-timed break in the rain, which held off just long enough for their vows, felt like a little gift from the Highlands, just for them. Thank you, Eilidh and Tommy, for your grace and good humour, and for letting me be a part of a day that was so full of warmth, friendship, and joy.
