A Tale of Two Yeses: Franziska & Joshua's Edinburgh Celebration at Riddle's Court

While my heart is often in the wild North-West Highlands, there's a special kind of magic in a city celebration, especially within the 500-year-old walls of Riddle’s Court on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile. This was the beautiful, intriguing setting for Franziska and Joshua’s symbolic wedding ceremony in early April. The weather that day was a little challenging, but it did nothing to diminish the brightness and joy that filled the historic rooms, making them feel even more like a warm, intimate sanctuary.

I had the pleasure of connecting with this wonderful couple as they planned their Scottish celebration from their home in Germany. Our process of crafting the ceremony together was a beautifully collaborative one. As they had already formalised their marriage the previous year, we could entirely focus on meaning and connection. This day was to be a heartfelt declaration in a place that feels like a spiritual home to them, shared with their closest circle of family and friends.

What emerged from our conversations was their beautiful philosophy on marriage: not as a single event, but as a conscious, ongoing choice made every day. It’s a connection built not on grand gestures, but in the quiet, everyday moments—dancing in the kitchen, singing loudly on car journeys, and the peaceful comfort of simply being together. It’s the profound understanding that home isn't a physical place, but a feeling you create with the right person. This became the heart of their ceremony.

Absolutely recommendable! Monika officiated our German-language wedding ceremony in Edinburgh, and we were completely thrilled. From our initial communication via email to the wedding itself, we felt incredibly well taken care of by Monika.

With her wedding speech, she managed to capture the perfect blend of funny stories, anecdotes, and a whole lot of emotion. Our guests also had nothing but praise for the ceremony, which was perfectly tailored to us and our wishes.

Franziska & Joshua

We wove this central idea into the fabric of the ceremony itself. With their guests gathered close, creating a wonderfully intimate atmosphere, they literally ‘tied the knot’ in a handfasting. They completed an infinity knot together—a powerful and tangible symbol of a love continually nurtured by their own hands. After sharing the heartfelt, personal vows they had written, they celebrated with a traditional Scottish Quaich. As they shared a drink from this 'cup of love', signifying their commitment to share in all of life's joys and challenges, their song, 'Sweet Mountain Rose' by Nathan Evans, played. The ceremony was made all the richer by beautiful readings from their friends, drawing everyone present even deeper into the circle of their story.

Franziska and Joshua’s celebration was a powerful reminder that a wedding can be a joyful affirmation of a love that is already deep and true. To witness their second, deeply personal 'yes' in a place so steeped in history was a true privilege. Thank you, Franziska and Joshua, for allowing me to be part of it all.
